SANTIAGO. -  The suspended minister of Education, Yasna Provoste, denied having considered resigning from her position due to the crisis that for her resulted in a slap in the face today. The Chamber of Deputies has upheld the constitutional charge against her.

“I never thought about resigning” she maintained, adding that “in a democracy, all positions are left to the disposition of the President of the Republic”.

During a conversation with TVN and Channel 13, Provoste stated that what happened today in Valparaíso represents a hard hit to the Chilean democratic system, because “the majorities have been distorted”, due to the support of some of the members of Parliament for the charge against her.

Provoste emphatically stated that the opposition had won a “trivial battle” by managing to get the charge against her approved and added that their statements made after the fact have tried to justify her unjust situation.

Concerning the deputies of her party who did not support her, such as Gabriel Ascendio, Provoste said that the situation has brought about “a mix of pain”, but that she did not hold any bitterness towards them:  “I just hope to be able to talk to them and be able to continue to call them comrades”.
