Consulate offers legal assistance to Peruvian woman who gave birth in a hospital bathroom

SANTIAGO.- After hearing about the case of a Peruvian woman who gave birth in a bathroom at the San José Hospital, officials from the Peruvian consulate in Santiago visited the woman and her baby to offer all necessary assistance, including legal representation.


The information was given by the Peruvian Vice Consul, Elvis Tuesta, who arrived at the hospital with Consul General Juan Antonio Prieto to check on the woman and her baby, as well as express the consulate’s “interest” in the case to authorities at the medical center.


“We met with the woman and her baby this morning to offer any kind of material assistance, resources, or medical aid, through our organized network of Peruvian doctors if necessary, as well as legal support if deemed appropriate”, stated the Vice Consul.


Referring to the legal assistance offered, the Vice Consul said, “we have offered her the network of legal assistance” belonging to the consulate and now it is up to her and the baby’s father to decide whether or not they will press charges.
