SANTIAGO.- Although the perception of corruption has dropped by 4 points compared to last year (registering a score of 5.1 on a scale of 1 to 10) public companies and municipalities continue to be perceived as the most corrupt entities in Chile according to the results of a poll taken by Liberty and Development. The survey takes into account the perception of those surveyed as well as their knowledge concerning specific cases.
In the most recent poll, public companies replaced municipalities as the most corrupt institutions according to those who were polled, obtaining a 6.0 and 5.7 respectively. Concerning the knowledge of specific facts about cases of corruption, the poll indicated a figure of 20.6% for both entities.
Meanwhile, the government ministries came in third place with a corruption perception of 5.1% and 13.6% of those surveyed indicating that they were aware of cases of corruption within the entities.
In contrast, the Comptroller’s Office and Chilean National Police Force fell within the other extreme side of the data and were designated as the least corrupt institutions, receiving scores of 1.7 and 1.8 respectively.
