SANTIAGO.- Just as they had promised, municipal health workers began a strike halting their activities at 8:00 AM this morning to voice their demands for improved labor conditions and compensation.

According to Radio Cooperativa, the demonstration, which was organized by the Municipal Health Confederation (CONFUSAM), is expected to continue through tomorrow and also plans to address authorities concerning the upset caused by a delay in the payment of the employee performance bonus.

The group is also claiming that there has been a lack of discussion following complaints that were filed petitioning for infrastructural improvements and workplace resources.

In light of the problems that are being caused for the poorest of medical patients in the country, the president of the Association of Chilean Municipalities, Ángel Bozán, will file a formal request for cancellation of the strike, which is expected to gain approximately 90% participation.
