Closed door meeting between Insulza and Bachelet at home of the President

The meeting with the President was held one day after the former minister mounted a strong campaign to defend his presidential candidacy to the Concertación

SANTIAGO.- Amidst the current presidential debate within the Concertación, the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, met with President Michelle Bachelet for almost an hour at her home on calle Burgos.

The private morning get-together came one day after the former minister mounted an intensive agenda to defend his possible presidential candidacy to the Concertación.

Insulza met with the directors of the Socialist Party and other party leaders yesterday to evaluate the state of his candidacy, especially after former President Ricardo Lagos was nominated to represent the PPD on Saturday.

The conclusion reached at the gathering was that Insulza would speak, most likely before Saturday, with the former President to ask him to clarify whether he truly is a presidential candidate and, depending upon the answer, will decide whether or not to run.
