Police foil ATM machine robbery in Puente Alto

Two individuals were detained as a result of the police operative.

SANTIAGO.- Police from the 20th Police Commissary of Puente Alto were able to intervene in the latest in a rash of ATM machine robberies. Two of the perpetrators were arrested.


The individuals detained have been identified as 19 year old Alejandro Riffo and 20 year old Luis Alveal (20), who arrived in a Honda car along with at least five other subjects who were in a truck. After forcing entry through the bars and metal door, they broke a window with a construction combo.


They then tied the cash dispenser with a metal cable and pulled the machine from its base.


However, the alarm sounded and when Police arrived the group fled, abandoning the ATM machine. Police were able to catch up and detain two of the subjects.


According to the Police Chief, neither of them have a criminal record and their participation in similar acts is being investigated. They have also mounted a search for the rest of the perpetrators.
