Rosende on wrongly-arrested woman: "Police follow the instructions of public prosecutors"

The Minister of Interior has stated that in order to avoid similar errors in the future, communication must be improved between public prosecutors and police.

SANTIAGO. -  After the wrongful arrest of a pregnant woman who was deprived of her freedom for two days after being accused of leading a gang of robbers, the Minister of Interior, Patricio Rosende, has declared that such mistakes affect people´s dignity, but said that police merely follow the instructions given by public prosecutors.


“Mistakes of this nature are always difficult topics because they affect the dignity and rights of people. The police act in accordance with the instructions given to them by public prosecutors”, stated Rosende.


The minister claimed that in order for similar mistakes to be prevented in the future, it is necessary to have a good line of communication between police and public prosecutors, as well as to continue to better train those who carry out investigative procedures.
