Confusam begins nation-wide strike despite request filed by the chief of mayors

The president of the union, Esteban Maturana, clarified that the demonstration is being held to protest the lack of government fulfilment of agreements that had previously been reached and is also looking to obtain a response from the Minister of Health concerning previous requests.

SANTIAGO.- The second national primary health care strike of the year –which is planned to last for 48 hours— has been initiated this morning by the National Confederation of Municipal Health Workers (CONFUSAM).

The movement is reportedly in response to a unfulfilled agreement that was previously reached between the government and the workers and is also looking to gain a response from the Minister of Health, Soledad Barría, concerning the requests that were presented to her in March.

The organization has said that it met with the head of mayors, Ángel Bozán, yesterday but indicated that the petition he had presented to them –to stop the strike— was out of context.

The group claims that Bozán “of course” did not offer them anything in return for cancellation of the strike. “He only told us that we should keep working together to resolve the problem regarding the financing of primary medical attention”, asserted the president of CONFUSAM.
