González slips from top ten while Massú continues to climb in ATP ranking

SANTIAGO.- Chilean tennis player Fernando González' return to the top ten was short lived. After just one week of being included in the select list of the top ten tennis players in the world, Chile's number one athlete has dropped to Nº 13 in the world ranking following his elimination during the finals of the Madrid Masters Series – forcing him to bid farewell the top ten list.
Furthermore, it is quite probable that Gonzaléz will finish the season outside of the top ten, since he will not take part in the Basilea tournament this week and probably will not play at the Paris-Bercy championship, which is scheduled to begin on October 27th.
Nicolás Massú however –who was not able to play the Montevideo Challenger final yesterday due to stomach problems- is experiencing a very different turn of events.
Massú's winning streak at the Uruguayan tournament has allowed the Viña del Mar native to climb 8 slots, placing him currently at ATP Nº 82. His next tournament will begin on Monday, October 27th in Cali, Colombia.
