SANTIAGO.- The new Supreme Court President, Urbano Marín, stated this morning that "ideally, problems are resolved before going to court", after being asked about political dispute resolution following Francisco Vidal's announcement that he may file a slander lawsuit against UDI Secretary General Darío Paya.

"The mission of the courts is to resolve conflicts and promote social peace", said Marín, who maintained that it is right for people to turn to the justice system when their rights are threatened.

Nevertheless, he reiterated that it is better for people to resolve issues amongst themselves before going to court "because sometimes taking an issue to court only makes matters worse".

Marín mentioned the issue after formally taking his place as the new Supreme Court president.
