SANTIAGO.- The Minister of Justice for the Metropolitan Regional Secretariat, Patrico Reyes, has announced that parole hearings have come to an end. According to him, only 138 of the total 320 cases that were submitted to the Santiago Court of Appeals were approved.
The paroles do not include the cases of the ex senator Jorge Lavadero Illanes or that of the ex-intelligence analyst Lenin Guardia.
Reyes pointed out that, due to the confidentiality of the proceedings, he cannot elaborate on the reasons for denying Lavandero's parole request. He did say, however, that in that case, as well as in that of Lenin Guardia, he understood that they did not meet all of the requirements to be paroled.
Nevertheless, Reyes clarified that both prisoners, along with all of the other people whose parole requests were denied, would be able to re-apply for parole on March 25th of this year.
