First Chilean film series debuts in China

"Subterra" and "Machuca" are just two of the films being shown at the Cervantes Institute in Beijiing.

BEIJING.- The first Chilean film series in China has debuted at the Cervantes Institute in Beijing. The exposition features a total of six movies to be shown between today and Friday.


The film series opened today with a showing of the movie "Subterra" by director Marcelo Ferrari. During the next few days, other Chilean movies such as "Cachimba" directed by Silvio Coizzi; "Play" by Alicia Scherson; "Machuca" by Andrés Wood; "Padre Nuestro (Our Father)" by Rodrigo Sepúlveda and "Mi mejor enemigo (My Best Enemy)" directed by Alex Bowen Carranza.


Chilean ambassador to China, Fernando Reyes Matta, commented that "we have planned an exhibition of Chilean films in order to establish direct contact with the Chinese people" and "to see what Chilean and Chinese film may have in common in the hopes of facilitating a dialogue in this globalized world".


He concluded that "without cultural relationships, the links between countries are not complete. These encounters in which we can observe each other are intrinsic and key to creating mutual understanding".
