Teenager with burns covering 85% of her body remains in critical condition

Francis Carolina Vidal Mansilla was seriously injured in a fire at the psychiatric unit of the Magallanes Regional Hospital.

SANTIAGO.- A 16-year old burn victim remains hospitalized in critical condition at the ex Posta Central medical center. The young girl was transferred to Santiago from the city of Punta Arenas after suffering extensive burns on her body during a fire in the psychiatric unit of the Magallanes Regional Hospital.


The blaze left Francis Carolina Vidal Mansilla with burns covering 85% of her body and remains in critical condition at the Santiago medical facility.


The disaster caused significant material damage to the facility and injured another 15 people. The other victims are currently reported to be in serious, but not critical, condition.


The fire alarm sounded at approximately 8:00 PM this past Saturday.  Four fire-fighting squads, along with emergency crews and police, were dispatched to the scene.
