SANTIAGO. - General Jorge Rojas, the assistant chief of the Police Department of Felony Prevention and Drugs confirmed this morning that the five suspects implicated in the assault and murder of officers Job Isaias Burgos and Carlos Cuevas Golmo have been identified.
According to a statement released this morning by the OS9 Police Troop in Nuñoa, which is functioning as the base of the investigation, two of the suspects have been arrested by police, while the other three remain on the run.
Rojas indicated that the two individuals who have been detained have prior police records and directly participated in the armed robbery and subsequent shootings that resulted in the deaths. Rojas also reported that a weapon, which may be a nine-millimeter handgun, has been seized.
The police general maintained that the incident does not involve an organized gang and that the officers had no time to draw their weapons after being surprised by the attackers.
