SANTIAGO.- Nicolás Massú (ATP no.94) will have to defeat a tough rival if he wishes to remain among the ranking’s top 100 players. The Viña del Mar native needs to reach the Acapulco ATP tournament quarter finals and, in order to do that, he must overcome Spanish player Carlos Moyá (ATP no. 13) tonight during the competition’s second round.
The match is scheduled for the last time slot on the center court, calling for both players to be on the court no earlier than 11:30 PM Chilean time (10:30 PM local time).
The victor between the two will go on to face the winner of the match between Spanish player Nicolás Almagro (ATP no. 28) and Italian player Filippo Volandri (ATP no. 41).
Yesterday, Massú triumphed over Argentinean player Masrtín Vassallo- Argüello with set scores of 6-3 and 6-4. The win brought an end to Massú’s terrible start to the season, after having endured four straight first round eliminations.
Massú and Moyá have faced each other on four previous occasions, resulting in two wins for each player. Tonight, the tie will be broken in Acapulco.
