SANTIAGO.- The president of the Socialist Party (PS), Camilo Escalona, has announced that the party´s board of directors will ask Chile’s State Defense Council (CDE) to bring appropriate legal action against those responsible for irregularities detected in the issuance of educational subsidies.
The senator also indicated that the board will propose a project to support the creating of an Investigative Commission to examine the use of state resources by some partisans.
“The main objective is to track down who stole the money. Our board of deputies is going to directly ask the CDE to provide the necessary resources to do so”, he stated.
According to Escalona, the current system for issuing educational subsidies “has collapsed”, and needs to be changed to a “payment system based on registration numbers and evaluation results”.
Concerning the possible constitutional charges that could be brought against Minister Provoste, Escalona maintained that “it is a way to divert public attention”.
