SANTIAGO.- “Absolutely absurd” was the term used by Chile’s Vice-President, Edmundo Pérez Yoma, to describe the Alianza´s accusations of “undue pressure” on the part of the government on the Comptroller’s Office after President Michelle Bachelet and Yoma himself asked the organization to swiftly turn in the pending report concerning financial irregularities detected in the distribution of school subsidies.

“I think it is absolutely absurd.  There has been no pressure, the truth is that we are dealing with a situation of public alarm”, said Pérez Yoma after his arrival at La Moneda this morning.

The executive official also stated that he does not know whether or not a possible offensive measure will be taken by Concertación representatives against Comptroller Ramiro Mendoza during his appearance before the Upper House’s Education Commission.

“I would not assume that there will be criticism, I think there will definitely be a lot of questions concerning the methodology of this work”, said Pérez Yoma referring to the formula used to calculate the $262 billion pesos in school subsidy irregularities indicated by the Comptroller’s Office.
