Moderate earthquake rattles northern Chile

According a report issued by Regional National Emergency Offices, no injuries or property damages have been reported.

SANTIAGO. - A moderate earthquake affected several municipalities in the northern part of the country this morning, just a few minutes before seven o’clock.


Most of the quakes were reported in the Atacama and Coquimbo Regions, with intensities ranging from III to IV on the Mercalli Scale.


According to a report issued by Regional National Emergency Offices (Onemi), the earthquake occurred at 6:44 AM this morning.


The report also indicates that tremors in Copiapó and Chañaral reached an intensity of IV degrees, III degrees in Huasco and Vallenar, as well as III degrees in La Serena.


No injuries or structural damages have been reported.
