SANTIAGO. -  Retail giant D&S, owned by the Ibánez family, affirmed today that it has not had any contact with Wal Mart concerning a possible deal or alliance.

This morning, stock market exchanges agreed to suspend trading of D&S shares until more information is disseminated on the topic.

Announcements had been made today that the world’s largest supermarket chain, the United States company Wal-Mart, may have resumed negotiations to either partially or entirely acquire D&S.  D&S, which is run by the Ibánez family, owns the “Líder” brand in Chile.  The news comes just after a recent failed merger between D&S and Falabella.
