Government declares agricultural emergency in 51 additional municipalities

$3.5 billion pesos have been allocated to localities in the regions of Valparaíso, El Maule, La Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos and Aysén.

TEMUCO. -  The Minister of Agriculture, Marigen Hornkohl, declared an additional 51 municipalities as Agricultural Emergency Zones and has allocated $3.5 billion pesos of aid.  These measures are in response to current drought conditions.


Areas to benefit from the measure are located in the regions of Valparaíso, El Maule, La Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos and Aysén.


With the addition of these new municipalities, there are now 195 areas that have been designated as agricultural emergency zones throughout the country, calling for over $20 bllion pesos worth of aid.


13 municipalities have been identified in the Region of Valparaíso, while in the Region of El Maule there are four municipalities, 13 in La Araucanía, four in Los Ríos, 10 in Los Lagos and finally, 7 in Aysén.


The measures and tools intended for support are delivered through various agricultural services.  The implementation of these services, as well as the situation in the rest of the nation’s municipalities is under constant oversight.
