SANTIAGO. - The leader of the National Renovation party (RN), Carlos Larráin, downplayed the importance of support given by ex presidential candidate Joaquín Lavín to the Minister of Education Yasna Provoste. Provoste is currently facing constitutional charges in Parliament, Larráin added that the UDI member (Lavín) “does not know the details of the case and will have no vote in the matter”.

“What is important is what is happening in the Ministry of Education, not what Joaquín Lavín thinks”, stated Larraín.

While deeming the constitutional charge “unfortunate”, Larraín asserted that the response to Lavín´s backing of Provoste has been “over- exaggerated”.

When questioned about the ongoing conflict between Carolina Plaza and Lavín concerning alleged financial irregularities that may have been committed by his son in law in Huechuraba, Larraín stated, “the role of his son in law is more of a direct problem for Joaquín, but that still doesn’t justify his summoning the Comptroller’s Office and all of the fuss he is making at the town council”.
