SANTIAGO.-  The intendant of Greater Santiago, Álvaro Erazo, has called Transantiago bus drivers seen  protesting this morning not to resort to “extreme” measures, saying that the government is always open to discussion.

“I ask you not to fall into these extreme situations that unfortunately threaten the safety of the workers themselves”, Erazo stated to Radio ADN.

The intendant stressed that “transportation directors for the Metropolitan Region (from the “Seremi de Transportes”) have been invariably concerned” and indicated that “the most important initiative is to make a call for peace”.

Concerning lawsuits filed by workers, who say that the terminals do not have adequate infrastructure and that they do not receive regular pay for extra hours, Erazo stated, “if there are lawsuits of that kind, it is outrageous that the company is not fulfilling a minimum condition of dignity for the workers”.
