SANTIAGO.– Regardless of the pressure to resign being put on suspended Minister of Education Yasna Provoste by DC party leaders and members of Parliament, Vice President of the Republic Edmundo Pérez Yoma has stressed that the decision is up to the minister herself.

“The resignation of Minister Provoste depends solely and exclusively on her”, Pérez Yoma stated. Additionally, the Vice President pointed out that the intentions of DC members will be evaluated this afternoon during the party’s national council meeting, which he will not be attending due to his position as the country’s Vice President.

Following the political committee meeting held on Monday of last week, government spokesperson Francisco Vidal ruled out Provoste´s possible resignation and assured that the government would pursue the issue in the Senate.  Vidal added that this was a government matter and reiterated the fact that ministers report to the President.

Pérez Yoma also took the opportunity to stress that government will support Minister Provoste “to the very end”.
