SANTIAGO.- “This is not the final word” was the statement given by the mayor of Peñalolén, Claudio Orrego. He stressed that the ruling issued by the Supreme court to honor the resolution in which Chile’s Regional Environmental Commission (COREMA) authorized the construction of a Metrogas propane gas plant in the municipality- is not definitive.
“Metrogas already appealed a decision made by the Comptroller’s Office in the Courts several months ago, which had halted construction on projects by way of a temporary permit”, Orrego told Radio Cooperativa.
Additionally, Orrego assured, “it is true that the Supreme Court ruling does not stop construction on the project, but in no way does it give a green light or offer a definitive solution to the issue”.
The mayor of Peñalolén pointed out that “the same ruling states in some of its sections that the argument does not concern the temporary permit, but rather refers to the definitive permit” to build the plant in Peñalolén, after its construction had initially been planned in Puente Alto.
