SANTIAGO. - The president of the Socialist Party (PS), Camilo Escalona, has criticized the “lack of loyalty” on the part of independent senators Fernando Flores and Adolfo Zaldívar. Escalona made his comments on his way out of the Cristian Democracy (DC) headquarters, where he had a made appearance to voice his support for the former minister of Education, Yasna Provoste.
“The insurgence of Fernando Flores and Adolfo Zaldívar, who have so deeply linked themselves to the right, to the point of practically being instruments or tools in a parliamentary attack, such as what was observed yesterday, shows that the matter of loyalty is fundamental to participate in politics”, stated the senator.
Escalona added that “the loss of loyalty to principles and values is a phenomenon that can be seen in both senators”.
Senator Escalona seemed surprised that Fernando Flores, who had been imprisoned on Dawson Island, and that Senator Zaldívar, who has defended political prisons, “have abandoned the values and principles that they fought for during the dictatorship”.
