SANTIAGO.- While expressing regret for the health worker strike being held today in public hospitals throughout the county, the sub secretary of Redes Asistenciales, Ricardo Fábrega, criticized that the measure is not justified and that it will only mean problems for the people.

“There is nothing that justifies it (the strike), with all of the effort we put forth, a postponement of activities doesn’t compel us to do anything”, Fábrega told Radio ADN— referring to the protest organized by the National Federation of Health Service University Professionals (Fenpruss), the National Confederation of Health Workers (Confenats) and the National Federation of Technical Health Service Officers (Fentess).

Fábrega also stated that the measure “is unfortunate, because the only ones who suffer are the people and in the end, everyone in the public sector is affected, including the officials and authorities who want there to be progress”.  “It doesn’t help anyone”, he said.

Fábrega indicated that the reason for the strike is to seek a retirement incentive and obtain benefits under law 20,209, which was passed last year.  According to the sub secretary, both points are being addressed.
