PUERTO NATALES.- President Michelle Bachelet affirmed today that the proposed law to permanently subsidize Transantiago also includes public transportation systems in areas outside of the Metropolitan Region (RM).

While visiting Puerto Natales, the President asserted that the initiative “is specifically designed to offer permanent support, because public transportation is used by those who are most vulnerable” and secondly, “to seriously consider the inclusion of the other regions”, reported Radio Cooperativa.

The President added that the proposal will also address the situation of student passengers “because we also know that there is a tremendous difference between what each student pays to get from one part of town to another”.

The proposed law , which will request US$350 million each year for the next three or four years, will be presented at Congress this Wednesday, where a heated debate can be expected due to the controversial nature of the topic.
