SANTIAGO.- Amid internal divisions in the Cristian Democracy Party stemming from an argument over when Soledad Alvear should be informed of the party’s presidential candidate, Senator Eduardo Frei has harshly criticized the party’s administration, warning that their current system is making for “a very difficult situation”.
In Frei´s opinion, the presidential debate should be postponed until after municipal elections, not held at the next National Meeting as had been planned by the most “die-hard Alvear supporters”.
A few months ago, we proposed the need for an integrated counsel as well as the need to postpone the presidential debate until after the municipal elections. We are still insisting upon this, we have not been heard. Now we have another internal division, even within the party’s board of directors, concerning these matters”, he criticized.
It is for this reason that the senator has said he completely agrees with the DC president(s), Jorge Burgos who, while leaving a meeting with the political committee at La Moneda on Monday, stated that his party should appoint their presidential candidate after October.
