SANTIAGO.- As Alianza leaders had been expecting, the mayor of La Florida, Pablo Zalaquett has announced that he will not be running for mayor of Santiago. He has harshly criticized the way his party has dealt with the municipality that is considered to be a springboard to La Moneda and blamed a lack of generosity among parties.

“One thinks that the Alianza has not done a good job and is paving the way for Ravinet to win, and one is offering to be the ham in the sandwich”, Zalaquett told Radio Cooperativa.

The mayor also indicated that he has revoked his candidacy for Santiago because “situations change, because when I said that, there were other candidates running such as Roberto Fantuzzi and Schaulsohn”.

While referring to statements made by the president of the National Renovation Party, Carlos Larraín, who had asserted that his party has a “political figure in mind” to run for mayor of Santiago, Zalaquett denied the party leader’s claim saying, “the truth is they don’t have anyone in mind”.
