SANTIAGO.- All classes at the Instituto Nacional and Liceo de Aplicación have been cancelled this morning after both educational establishments began demonstrations to protest against the possible passing of the General Education Law (LGE).

Reports indicate that an assembly is being held at the Instituto Nacional with representatives from the student center, as well as some teachers.

At the Liceo de Aplicación, a parental representative for the students has confirmed that the high school is on strike.

According to López, the close to 4,000 students voted in favor of the strike by only 29 votes.

Close to 500 students are located inside the school.  Nevertheless, some of the students outside have said that they are against the approval of the General Education Law, but that they do not support the strike – indicating that they do not wish to miss classes.

Meanwhile, the Liceo Conferderación Suiza reportedly may join in on the demonstrations sometime during the morning.
