SANTIAGO.- Deputy Juan Carlos Latorre (DC) has stated that there is no defined leadership within the Concertación following the President´s decision not to intervene in the crisis stemming from the decision made by the PPD and PRSD to use separate ballots in the October municipal elections for town councilor.

“If the President says that she is not willing to intervene, then we are in very bad shape.  It is obvious that leadership is a weakness for the government”, the deputy asserted during an interview with Radio Cooperativa.

Latorre pointed out that the PPD and PRSD decision to launch two separate ballots was a proposal that had been known for quite a while within the Concertación.

Additionally, Latorre said that he did not believe the decision has to do with obtaining more vacancies, since that matter can be discussed within the Concertación.

The deputy also stated that Ricardo Lagos, as founder of the PPD, “has a lot to say” about maintaining unity within the Concertacion, since the action to be taken by the party is very dangerous for the future of the organization.
