VALPARAISO.- The Transportation Commission of the Senate will meet today between 12 and 1:30 PM at the former National Congress building to discuss the taxes on diesel fuel with the head of Enap, Enrique Dávila; the CEO of Shell Chile, Rodrigo Infante; the general manager of Copec, Jorge Bunster and the general manager of Esso, Juan Junet.
The minister of Finance, Andrés Velasco, was also called to attend the meeting.
Senator Jorge Pizarro, a member of the specialized committee maintained, “we are hoping for a reasonable explanation from Enap about what is happening with the price hikes and we are going to ask the distributors how they can access price information and if there is any chance they maybe able to import directly and, perhaps at better prices, because they are just distributors”.
Senator Jovino Novoa asserted that the situation currently facing transportation companies, as well as all fuel consumers in general, is unmanageable, indicating, “that is why it is time for the government to stop charging the excise tax on fuel”.
