SANTIAGO. -  The Santiago Municipal Government has decided to lift the pre-emergency environmental alert that had been issued for Tuesday, after improved air quality was registered in the capital city today.

Vehicles with a green stamp will be allowed to circulate, but not non-catalytic vehicles with license plates ending in 5, 6, 7 or 8.

The measure was adopted after a significant improvement in air ventilation conditions was observed within the valley of Santiago.  Authorities also took into account the frontal system forecasted to pass through the area today.

All eight monitoring stations within the capital reported good air quality indexes today except for Cerro Navia, where no data was available.

Despite the revocation, Mayor Álvaro Erzao has asserted that penalties issued to drivers who did not respect the pre-emergency environmental alert today will still be fined.
