SANTIAGO.- After the National Confederation of Truck Owners finally reached an agreement with the government last night following the Executive Branch’s pledge to cut back on the federal fuel tax by 80%, the minister of Interior (s), Felipe Harboe, called on truckers to permanently put an end to demonstrations.
“Encourage your leaders to bring an end to the strike with the same enthusiasm some exhibited while mounting the demonstration”, stated Harboe, referring to the fact that demonstrations have still not stopped in some regions within the country.
In the Metropolitan Region for example, close to one hundred trucks continue to block Route 5 at the highway’s intersection with Américo Vespucio.
Amid the situation, Harboe manifested his confidence that the agreement signed by the National Confederation of Truck Owners to end the strike will be accepted by other groups despite resistance within some parts of the trucking sector.
