SANTIAGO.- The RN presidential hopeful, Sebastián Piñera, stated this morning that the financial irregularities detected with the municipality of Huechuraba are a “serious” matter, maintaining, “we cannot have a double standard” with regards to this.
Nevertheless, the opposition leader defended Mayor Carolina Plaza (former UDI member), stating, “she is an honest woman, that is not being disputed, what is under dispute is that, according to a report from the Comptroller’s Office, the Huechuraba municipal administration had numerous financial irregularities”.
“There were poorly-made contracts, irregularities, that is what the Comptroller’s report indicates and we cannot have a double standard, we have to take on the same attitude regardless of whether the problem arises on the side of the Concertación or our own”, Piñera asserted during a conversation with Canal 13.
In Piñera´s opinion, similar financial anomalies “probably exist in many other municipalities. Therefore, if we want to have modern municipalities with greater resources that are more in touch with the communities they serve, one of the things we have to do is improve the quality of municipal administration”.
