SANTIAGO.- The arraignment hearing of the Cavieres clan, also known as “Car´e Jarro” is expected to begin within the next few minutes today at the 10th Criminal Court of Santiago under intense police and National Prison Guard supervision.
The Metropolitan Public Prosecutor’s Office, lead by Alejandro Peña, will present telephone recordings, photographs, videos and flow charts as evidence of the illegal association, drug trafficking and money laundering crimes the members of the dangerous group are being charged with.
Estimated to last for more than seven hours, the hearing is predicted to be one of the longest drug trafficking sessions since the new justice system was implemented.
Shackled and handcuffed, the 22 defendants were transported to the Justice Center in a bus that was escorted by 50 law enforcement officials and 10 vehicles from the Anti-Narcotics Department of police.
There are currently six police officers, two of which are armed with machine guns, situated in the hallway of the third floor at the courthouse, along with at least six security guards.
