SANTIAGO. -  The president of the PRSD, José Antonio Gómez, expressed his belief that José Miguel Insulza´s decision to drop out of the presidential race does not change the situation with regards to the Concertación´s internal primaries and assured that his candidacy to La Moneda remains strong.

The senator indicated that he is in favor of democratic elections and said that he therefore believes that the left-wing primaries are the right path to take, stating “choosing a candidate within four walls is not good”.

“We believe that the decision must be made by the independents and those belonging to the Concertación by way of the open primaries on April 26th.  That is why we are going to go ahead with the decision to present ourselves during the primaries”, Gómez declared following his participation in the routine meeting of left-wing party leaders.

According to Goméz, Inzulza´s decision will affect the Socialist Party, but indicated that leaders will still need to wait and see what other political resolutions are reached by the parties.
