SANTIAGO.- Although RN Deputy Alberto Cardemil decided not to make a presentation to the Constitutional Tribunal (TC) due to the appointment of Felipe Harboe as the deputy that will replace the newly designated Minister of Government Affairs, Carolina Tohá, UDI Secretary General Víctor Pérez assured today that both parties of the right are thoroughly evaluating the appointment.

"We are looking into the matter very scrupulously along with the National Renovation party and that is why we hope to take the same position. There is no doubt that we do not agree with the procedure that was used", the senator stated after holding a meeting with the Minister of Interior, Patricio Rosende.

"We are determining whether there has been some kind of abuse in the constitutional interpretation. We are studying the matter thoroughly because we believe that the use of institutions for electoral purposes is neither good nor healthy", he added.

According to the head of the UDI, the case concerning Harboe's appointment will have to be presented before the Constitutional Tribunal if it is found to be in violation of constitutional regulations, such as that which establishes that in order to become a deputy one must have left his or her position in the government administration at least one year prior.
