SANTIAGO.- Close to 2,300 homes in the Metropolitan Region are currently without electricity as a result of the strong winds that swept through the capital city last night.
According to the National Emergency Office (ONEMI), the situation is affecting several areas of the municipalities of La Reina, La Cisterna, Puente Alto, Pirque and La Pintana.

Representatives for the entity have said that the problems are concentrated in certain areas and personnel from the respective electric companies are currently working to re-establish service.

Fallen tree

The company stated that the most complex situation at the moment has been reported at the intersection of Echenique and Vicente Pérez Rosales, in the municipality of La Reina, where a tree more than 20 meters tall collapsed on top of some electrical cables.
As a result some 1230 Chilectra customers are without electricity and the traffic light at the aforementioned intersection is not functioning.

The winds that have been blowing through the Metropolitan Region since yesterday have prompted power outages, generator failures, as well as fallen branches and trees.
