Antofagasta: Eleven serious and 150 minor injuries

The city most affected is Tocopilla, where there are 6 serious injuries and 115 minor injuries.

ANTOFAGASTA.-  In addition to the two fatal victims that were reported yesterday in Tocopilla, the current toll is a total of 11 serious, but not critical, injuries and 150 minor injuries in the region of Antofagasta that have been caused by the, earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, which affected the northern part of Chile yesterday.


Of the serious injuries, the majority was due to fractures caused by falls and all victims are now out of harm’s way.


The city most affected is Tocopilla, where there are 6 serious and 115 minor injuries; in Antofagasta 2 serious and 30 minor injuries, in María Elena one person was seriously injured and 2 recieved minor injuries; in Mejillones 2 serious injuries; and in Calama 3 minor injuries were reported.


40% of the houses in Tocopilla are reported to have considerable damage, and 10% are destroyed and dangerous.


With respect to basic services, Tocopilla is also the most affected city, where the supply of water as well as electricity has been faltering.


For the moment, in Antofagasta, ocasional blackouts are being reported and the supply of water is normal.
