"Ministra en campaña" has set off for the zone affected by the earthquake

SANTIAGO.- The Police Under Secretary, Javiera Blanco, set off this morning on her way to Antofogasta after President Michelle Bachelet appointed her as the "ministra en campaña" to organize and manage the supply of aid to victims of the earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, that affected the northern part of the country.

The authority arrived early to greet local Police at the private airport in Tobalaba, where she boarded a plane that took off for the region of Antofogasta, according to the institution.

After finalizing the Political Committee ("Comité Político") with President Bachelet, government spokesperson, Ricardo Lagos Weber, announced that the Chief of State had designated Javiera Blanco for the position.

He indicated that her duties include the responsibility for carrying out a "correct coordination and pace of organization between Ministries, especially those services from the Central Government and the Santiago Government's Office".

When asked how long she will remain the authority in Antofogasta, the Minister responded that that aspect "will have to be evaluated on a day-by-day basis".
