SANTIAGO.- During a sober ceremony, the Concertación, the Alliance and the Government signed the protocol of a civic safety agreement, made after work performed by the tripartite "anti-delinquency commission" agreement, which was created at the beginning of November.
The most noted absence at the event was that of Joaquín Lavín, but the work that he put forth to bring the officials and opposition together was emphasized by the Minister of Interior Relations, Belisario Velasco.
The minister also spotlighted the "efficient" job done by the Members of Parliament and Government Representatives within the safety commission, as well as the "open and flexible" ambience that prevailed, despite differences.
The state secretary's words were supported by President Michelle Bachelet, who underlined the "triumph of good faith and good disposition to move forward on a very important part of the social pact as something that is tangible and possible".
In her statement, the President thanked "all those who actively participated" in the formation of this agreement, which she deemed "a gesture that strongly honors politics" and that represents "an example of commitment and patriotism".
