SANTIAGO.- The self-sufficiency of the Supreme Court was questioned during the extradition of ex Peruvian President, Alberto Fujimori.  Even so, Enrique Tapia, who is only days from leaving his position, has assured that, “the public image of the judicial system was strengthened” following the ruling to send the former Chief of State back to Peru in order to face charges.

The minister acknowledged that the extradition of Fujimori was one of the judicial milestones of the year and of his time in office.  After the event, the public perception of the Chilean justice system improved on an international level.

“I was traveling in two or three places abroad after the verdict was announced and all of them were aware of the ruling against Fujimori, they thought it was sensational, that it was the first time it had happened and the first time an extradition had been approved, it sets the bar pretty high” said the minister during the interview.
