SANTIAGO.- After meeting with the government spokesperson, socialist party Deputy Marco Enríquez Ominami announced today that the decision for a digital television standard has been "indefinitely" postponed. He also said that Francisco Vidal will attend a special meeting to address the matter in Congress on January 2nd, 2008.

The Member of Parliament blamed the delay on the head of the Transport and Telecommunications Ministry, René Cortázar, whom he had met with to discuss the subject last Friday.

"(Cortázar) has explained to me that the agreements that were reached have not been fulfilled and that a decision has been made to indefinitely postpone the decision", said Enríquez Ominami.

Concerning the decision, the Socialist Party (PS) legislator stated that "it is unacceptable to postpone this three times". He also added that "the most serious issue is not only that it has been postponed, but that no explanations for the delay have been given, nor has anyone presented us with subsequent actions to be taken".

"What I'm saying is that these delays allow time for a campaign that is insane", explained the deputy for the Region of Valparaíso.
