SANTIAGO.- Humberto Suazo's transfer to Independiente continues to face holdups even though managers for the Monterrey team thought they had finished the negotiations last week.
They are back to the drawing board and the Chilean player is, for now, still with the Mexican team.
Nevertheless, Independiente still hasn't thrown in the towel. The team continues its struggle to acquire the ex Colo Colo player, and is willing to pay Monterrey's 5-million dollar asking price. This would be the highest amount the Avellaneda club has ever paid for a player.
Negotiations continue despite the numerous financial difficulties facing the Argentine team. The club is seriously indebted and is in the middle of a large construction project, the remodeling of the Libertadores de América stadium. To top it all off, Independiente's top, most tradable players (Denis, Sosa, and Matheu), remain home-bound.
The proposed 5 million dollars for 100% of the monetary rights to Humberto "Chupete" Suazo would become the highest paid signing to date during the 103 years of team Independiente's lifespan.
