PUERTO MONTT.- Doctor Ivonne Jäger remains under observation at Puerto Montt Base Hospital after being admitted to the medical center this morning due to a prescription drug overdose.

The hospital's director, Osvaldo Gasc, stated that Dr. Jäger had been hospitalized after ingesting sedatives and is now in stable condition.

Gasc added that in the next few hours Jäger will be transferred to a different hospital ward following orders from her doctor, Psychiatrist Francisco Venegas.

Jäger had been sentenced to 5 years in prison for attempting to murder her son, 21 year-old Andrés Vienne Jäger. Dr. Jäger's defense had argued that she is currently suffering from a severe mental disorder and requested a hearing to suspend her sentence. The court however, denied this request.

Jäger had already attempted suicide on one occasion in July 2006 during one of her son's various health crises. The doctor was later found to have been the one responsible for her son's medical afflictions.
