SANTIAGO.- Anticipating an immediate adjustment to the ministry, PPD president Guido Girardi stated that the country needs to see a change in the cabinet "as soon as possible" and that President Michelle Bachelet has complete support from all Concertación parties to do so.

After meeting with Government Spokesperson Francisco Vidal, Girardi announced his concern regarding the delay in designating a new Minister of Interior to "take control of the country's problems once again".

"The country needs a Minister of Interior to be responsible for citizen safety, which is one of the major problems in Chile", he said.

Girardi also explained that he had met with Vidal in order to voice his complete support  and backing regarding the "campaign of disqualifications" that, in his opinion, the opposition is launching against the spokesperson.

"I don't remember ever seeing the right-wing involved in such an elaborate campaign to attack someone and I think that behind it is a systematic attempt to sabotage the President's administration", he stated.
