SANTIAGO.- Government Spokesman Francisco Vidal received an ironclad vow of support today from the UDI mayor of the municipality of Huechuraba, Carolina Plaza. Plaza was infuriated by the way her fellow-Alliance member Nicolás Monckeberg of the RN (National Renovation Party), had questioned the minister about the alleged illegitimate appointment of his older brother to the Institute of Pension Standardization or INP.

"It made me very angry because the political role of institutions is one thing, while the personal lives of public officials elected to serve the country is another", she stated.

"A statement like this cannot be made against relatives who think differently or are fans of different sports teams, but wish to work. Political dignity and above all, democracy as well as respect for institutions is key, especially if we want more young people to join public service", she added angrily.

After meeting with Vidal at presidential palace La Moneda, Plaza explained "I came to see Francisco, the minister, hoping that what we saw yesterday is not to be repeated in our country's politics".
