VALPARAÍSO. -  Members of Parliament are putting forth an initiative to lower the tax on gasoline fuels.

The Chamber of Deputies has reached an agreement (42 votes in favor, 3 against and 1 abstention) to make a formal request to President Bachelet for a law that would revoke the specific product tax on natural gas and liquid gasoline for vehicle use.

On September 27th, 2005, law 20,052 was passed that modifies the taxation applicable to gas fuels for vehicles.

According to the Lower House’s website, the initiative seeks to promote the use of natural gas and liquid gasoline for small vehicles and switch some of the city buses to these types of fuel, valid for both sectors due to the fact that these types of fuels comply with necessary safety regulations.
