SANTIAGO.– Flanked by representatives from political parties of the Alliance, the Concertación and the Communist Party, President Michelle Bachelet made an energetic declaration making it clear that Chile has no unresolved matters regarding maritime boundaries with Peru.

"Chile does not consider there to be any unresolved boundary issues with Peru, our maritime border has been established and the treaties and practices prove us to be correct", Bachelet stressed. The President added: "At this meeting, we the government and the presidents of the Chilean parties have agreed upon these criteria".

At the end of the almost 2-hour long meeting  with political leaders at La Moneda, the President stated "my government has taken on the defense of these interests as a state policy that goes beyond the interest of separate political parties and will work strenuously on this task that is open to all areas".

"Chile is prepared, our legal position is solid, we have the best of teams and we believe in our arguments", maintained Bachelet. Later, the President made the same reference to the defense that the country will present to The International Court of Justice at The Hague once Peru officially files its maritime border complaint.
